Aidan Sulway
Consulting Engineer
Aidan joined FairHeat as a Graduate Engineer in 2024, following his graduation from Imperial College London with a MEng in Chemical Engineering in 2023. Recognised for his academic potential, Aidan was awarded the President’s Scholarship at Imperial College, highlighting his exceptional capabilities and dedication to his field.
Aidan’s passion for sustainable engineering began early in his academic career. During sixth form, he built and tested an aquaponic food growing system for use in developing countries as part of his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).
For his final year at university, Aidan completed a research project where he investigated the competitiveness of heat pump technologies compared to hydrogen and electricity as fuel sources for domestic heating in the UK. This experience provided him with a deep understanding of the evolving landscape of sustainable energy technologies.
Aidan’s journey with FairHeat began with a summer internship in 2022. Reflecting on this experience, Aidan noted, “Upon completing my internship, I have taken away valuable engineering experience in the building services industry. Site visits have shown me how important it is to make your own judgments, as there are things even the best engineers can miss. It has demonstrated the skills necessary to take the first steps in becoming a sound engineer as well as motivating me to develop skills in all areas. The team never stopped being as helpful as they could be, and the work FairHeat does really is the next step in ensuring the UK reaches net zero by 2050.”
Impressed by his performance and dedication, FairHeat invited Aidan to join their graduate scheme in 2024.
"I joined FairHeat's gradute scheme because of the company's genuine commitment to quality and the clear ambition it has within the heat network sector. Two years in, that decision has been validated many times over. I've been given opportunities I doubt I'd have encountered anywhere else at this stage, from assiting the formation of a not-for-profit heat network operator, to managing complex commercial and legal workstreams across major development contracts. FairHeat operates at the very front of what heat networks can be, and that's prodcued a breadth of technical and commercial experience that's hard to replicate. The culture of accountability and trust has been central to that, responsibility finds you early, and that is what actually develops you."
