Tom spent four years at Cambridge University studying for a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering where he developed his interest in reducing energy use, CO2 emissions and water use. He joined FairHeat in 2019 as a Graduate Engineer, has since then been promoted twice, and is currently a Lead Engineer.
At FairHeat, Tom has developed a breadth of experience on heat network design, commissioning, optimisation of systems and financial options appraisals. His role as a Lead Engineer involves working on the design of heat network systems and developing the skills to deliver cost and energy saving measures to clients, as well as spending time on site carrying out commissioning reviews and acceptance testing.
Tom has become an active member in the industry, contributing his knowledge and experience. In 2020, Tom completed a research project investigating the techno-economic feasibility of externally accessible HIUs. This work has been recognised internationally with Tom being invited to present his findings at the Smart Energy Systems 2020 conference in Denmark and later accepted into CIBSE Technical Symposium 2021. Tom has also been recognised for his research on the electrification of heat generation for heat networks and was invited to present at the CIBSE Technical Symposium 2022.
Tom sits on the CIBSE Young Energy Performance Group (YEPG) steering group as a technical officer. In 2020, Tom was shortlisted for the CIBSE Young Engineer of the Year Award.
