The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) appoints FairHeat to deliver the HNTAS Interim Technical Support contract, continuing our role as the lead technical authors of the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS), with support from Gemserv.

This appointment follows three years of FairHeat’s extensive work developing the technical foundations of HNTAS, including drafting the scheme’s Code documents and Heat Network Technical Standard (TS1).

The new contract ensures continuity of expertise as HNTAS moves into its final development phase ahead of its formal introduction in 2026. This work is essential to ensuring HNTAS is robust, implementable and ready for regulatory rollout.

Gareth Jones, Managing Director and Lead Technical Author, comments:

“FairHeat is extremely proud to continue supporting DESNZ at such a pivotal moment for the heat network industry. Over the past three years, HNTAS has been shaped through significant technical collaboration across the sector. We look forward to continuing to build on this foundation, ensuring the scheme is ready for launch.

“This next phase is about strengthening the scheme, embedding feedback from consultation and pilots and ensuring the industry can confidently move toward compliance from 2026. FairHeat remains committed to supporting that journey.”

We look forward to supporting DESNZ and the wider sector through this next phase.
