The UK, witnessing a surge in Heat Interface Unit (HIU) installations, faces a demand for performance standards. As part of government research in 2016, a test standard for individual dwelling HIUs was developed, then adopted by the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA).

Revised in 2018 and 2023, the most recent version of the BESA UK HIU Test Regime represents a significant advancement, driven forward by steering group comprising representatives from across the HIU market. Integrated into CIBSE CP1 (2020), the standard has wide manufacturer acceptance.

It has fostered significant industry R&D over six years, leading to enhanced heat network performance and reduced carbon emissions. This consumer-driven standard is set to further elevate HIU standards in the upcoming edition, showcasing the transformative impact of such initiatives.
