In November 2024 FairHeat transitioned to a 100% employee-owned company through the creation of an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT). This landmark change secures FairHeat’s independence, safeguards its values, and ensures its people remain at the centre of its future growth.

  • FairHeat transitioned into an Employee Ownership Trust in November 2024.
  • FairHeat became a member of the Employee Ownership Association (EOA) in 2024 as part of its transition to employee ownership.
  • The Employee Voice Group (EVG) was established in 2025 to represent staff across all levels of the business, influencing decision-making and championing employee ownership.

Founded in 2015, FairHeat has rapidly established itself as a leader in raising performance standards across the UK heat network industry. The move to employee ownership reflects the company’s mission-driven focus on long-term sustainability, innovation, and collaboration.

Gareth Jones, Managing Director of FairHeat, comments:

“As of November 2024, FairHeat has become a 100% employee-owned and controlled company, through an Employee Ownership Trust structure. We made this decision because we see our mission as a long-term one and wanted to put in place a stable structure for the future. Having reviewed our options, we concluded that a transfer to employee ownership is the most sustainable model. We believe this will help us attract and retain top talent while enabling us to remain flexible in our decision-making and focused on delivering for our clients and the wider industry.”

The EOT will be overseen by a board including three elected employee representatives, who act as guardians of the Trust on behalf of all employees. In addition, FairHeat has launched an Employee Voice Group (EVG) to ensure staff from across the company have a formal platform to influence decisions, policies, and benefits.

Lucy Sherburn, Senior Engineer and Employee Trustee on the EOT Board, added:

“Becoming employee-owned has given us, as employees, a genuine say in how the business operates. We feel like an integral part of FairHeat’s success – and that sense of ownership has already boosted engagement and motivation across the team.”

FairHeat became a member of the Employee Ownership Association (EOA) in 2024. The move has been welcomed by James de le Vingne, Chief Executive of the EOA, who quoted:

“Congratulations to FairHeat on making the move to employee ownership. They’re joining a rapidly expanding sector that’s statistically shown to have positive social, community, and environmental impacts. Transitioning is a commitment to a better way of working, and FairHeat is helping to establish employee ownership as an integral element of the energy and engineering sector and a vital part of the UK economy.”

Looking ahead, FairHeat is confident that employee ownership will strengthen its culture of collaboration and inclusivity, while further enhancing its ability to deliver value to clients and drive innovation in the heat network industry.
