Andrea Mackenzie
Graduate Engineer
Andrea joined FairHeat as a Graduate Engineer in 2023 after completing a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, including a placement year, at the University of Bath.
During her studies, she gained industry experience at Phillips 66, where she worked on utilities monitoring, forecasting, maintenance, HAZOPs, and technical design improvements. She also completed a research internship with Polytechnique Montréal, exploring innovative energy storage technologies, and was recognised with the BP Women in STEM Leadership Award.Alongside her academic achievements, Andrea has demonstrated strong leadership through her long-standing involvement in Scouting and as a board member of the Women in Engineering Society at the University of Bath.
Since joining FairHeat, Andrea has supported heat network optimisation, retrofit and decarbonisation projects, heat network connection assessments, quality assurance reviews, and energy centre performance analysis. She was runner-up in the CIBSE Young Engineer Awards 2025 Graduate of the Year category and presented her graduate research at the CIBSE Technical Symposium.
Andrea now works as a Consultant in FairHeat’s District Heating team, assessing the feasibility of early-stage heat network projects and supporting the transition to low-carbon heating solutions.
"I chose to join FairHeat to contribute to reducing carbon emissions and make a positive impact to people being supplied by heat networks. I was excited to gain on-site as well as technical design and optimisation experience. I’m glad to be supporting the transition to a more sustainable society. During this time I hope to continue promoting STEM to the younger generations."
