Avril Bullock

Consulting Engineer

Avril Bullock joined FairHeat as a Graduate Engineer in 2023.
Avril’s academic journey at the University of Nottingham culminated in achieving a first-class MEng degree in Chemical with Environmental Engineering, graduating in 2023. Avril distinguished herself academically through her final year master’s research project, which focused on the design and manufacture of a sustainable barley enriched ice cream product. This project earned her 2nd place in the IChemE Food and Drink – Student Project Prize, showcasing her ability to blend engineering principles with sustainability.
During her industrial placement year, Avril gained experience at Jacobs Douwe Egberts as a Research and Development intern. Over the course of 13 months, she developed a novel energy balance model of the freeze-dried process, aimed at estimating the energy savings of a step change in the production process. Furthermore, Avril took the lead on pilot-level trials to evaluate the benefits of installing a new heat exchanger within the factory network.
Since joining FairHeat and completing the Graduate Scheme, Avril has been promoted to Consulting Engineer. Avril has built expertise in Optimisation, Retrofit Design, and Quality Assurance of heat networks. She’s contributed to diverse projects and is currently overseeing the operation and maintenance of heat networks.
