George Pickens

Graduate Engineer

George Pickens joined FairHeat as a Graduate Engineer in 2023, after completing a Chemical Engineering Master’s with a professional placement from the University of Bath in 2022.

George’s professional placement was carried out at Uniper Technologies, an energy engineering consultancy known for its focus on the energy transition. During this time, he worked on a variety of projects, mainly focusing on carbon capture for natural gas power plants and blue hydrogen production projects. This experience provided him with a solid foundation in the practical aspects of energy engineering, particularly in the emerging field of carbon capture technology.

Since joining FairHeat, George has acquired experience across multiple departments, including Optimisation, Quality Assurance, and Industry Standards. This has provided him with exposure to heat networks across their lifecycle, from early-stage design through to operation and continuous improvement.

Currently as a Consulting Engineer in the Compliance department, George’s work focusses on optimising the performance of existing heat networks, and providing clients with roadmaps for compliance with current and upcoming heat network regulatory requirements.

"I believe that mitigating climate change will be the greatest challenge of our time, so it was very important for me to join a company that is focused on decarbonisation. FairHeat stands out as a leader and innovator in the heat network industry, which has significant potential for decarbonisation to support the UK’s net zero targets. It's a privilege to work alongside such a talented group of engineers and contribute to projects that have a tangible impact on communities and the environment."
