Jacob Kurlansky-Thom
Graduate Engineer
Jacob joined FairHeat as a Graduate Engineer in 2025 after graduating with First-Class Honours in Chemical and Energy Engineering (MEng) from the University of Leeds.
During his studies, Jacob developed a strong foundation in sustainable energy and process engineering, with a particular focus on low-carbon technologies and carbon management. His Master’s research project investigated potential utilisation methods for carbon dioxide produced through anaerobic digestion of biomass.
Alongside his academic studies, Jacob gained industry experience as a Geo-Environmental Technician on the HS2 project, contributing to a major UK infrastructure programme and developing his understanding of multidisciplinary engineering projects.
Since joining FairHeat, Jacob has worked within the Quality Assurance team, supporting preparations for the introduction of the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS) and Heat Network Technical Standard (TS1). His work includes contributing to quality management processes, compliance documentation, and the delivery of high-quality heat network projects.
As a Graduate Engineer in the Quality Assurance team, Jacob supports the development of industry-leading standards and helps ensure heat networks are designed, constructed, and operated to the highest quality standards.
“I was particularly drawn to FairHeat not only for its commitment to sustainable innovation and its leading role in shaping the future of the heat network industry, but also for its genuine focus on nurturing and developing the next generation of engineers. I’m excited to grow as a professional within the industry and play an active role in tackling real-world engineering challenges.”
