Oliver Rockey
Consulting Engineer
Oliver joined FairHeat in 2025 with a background in Renewable Energy Engineering and a long-standing interest in the decarbonisation of heat. Oliver’s passion for low‑carbon heat began during his time at Durham University, where he gained hands‑on experience through internships focused on heat network policy, retrofit strategy, and the design of ground and water source heat pump systems. He also worked on the installation of GSHP and WSHP collector pipework, giving him practical insight into system delivery.
Before joining FairHeat, Oliver completed a two‑year graduate scheme at SSE. During this time, he worked within the heat network design team on new‑build district heating schemes and undertook placements in heat network project development and ICP (electrical grid connection) design, broadening his understanding of the integrated systems that underpin successful heat network deployment.
Oliver is a Consulting Engineer in FairHeat’s Optimisation team, where over the past year he has played a key role in developing the company’s portfolio review and compliance journey for clients. He has also delivered optimisation studies across a wide range of heat networks, helping improve system performance, efficiency, and alignment with industry standards.
“I developed a passion for tackling the challenge of decarbonisation of heating in the UK during my time at university, recognising it as one of the most significant barriers to meeting the country’s climate targets. Heat networks will play a vital role in addressing this challenge, and each one presenting an interesting engineering puzzle, requiring a unique approach based on factors such as scale, building age, and heat source. FairHeat is a great place to work with and learn from some of the leading experts in the field and contribute to making a meaningful impact within the UK heat sector.”
