Sebastian Janssens
Consulting Engineer
Sebastian joined FairHeat in 2022 after graduating from University College London with a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering. Since joining the business, he has developed experience across a range of disciplines, including heat network retrofit design, quality assurance, and on-site project delivery, progressing to the role of Consulting Engineer.
Throughout his time at FairHeat, Sebastian has worked on projects focused on improving the performance and efficiency of heat networks, supporting local authorities and housing associations with early-stage optimisation studies and portfolio-wide recommendations. His work has helped clients identify opportunities to improve system performance, reduce energy consumption, and support decarbonisation objectives.
Currently, as a Consulting Engineer, Sebastian is involved in the design and delivery of heat network improvement projects, with a particular focus on plant room upgrades, metering, and monitoring systems. He works closely with clients and project teams to ensure networks are accurately monitored, effectively controlled, and capable of delivering reliable, efficient heat to end users. Alongside his project responsibilities, Sebastian is working towards achieving Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with CIBSE, continuing to develop his technical expertise and professional knowledge. Through his work, he supports FairHeat’s mission to improve heat network performance and accelerate the transition to low-carbon heating solutions.
"Having now spent several years at FairHeat, I remain genuinely enthusiastic about the work we do. The need to decarbonise heat is becoming ever clearer, and heat networks have a critical role to play— one that still doesn’t always receive the attention it deserves. Being part of a team with one of the UK’s most experienced groups of heat network engineers has been both exciting and highly rewarding, and I’ve found it fulfilling to contribute to projects that make a real impact."
