Simran Chaggar
Senior Engineer
Simran joined FairHeat as a Graduate Engineer in 2020 and is now a Senior Engineer. She holds an MEng in Chemical Engineering from University College London and is currently working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
Since joining FairHeat, Simran has built extensive experience across the district heating sector, working on both legacy heat networks and new-build developments. Following the successful completion of FairHeat’s two-year graduate programme, she was promoted to Consulting Engineer in 2022, reflecting her growing technical expertise and commitment to delivering sustainable energy solutions.Throughout her career at FairHeat, Simran has been involved in the design, installation, commissioning, and testing of heat networks, supporting clients across a range of projects. Her experience includes helping public sector organisations secure government funding for decarbonisation initiatives and supporting the development of RIBA Stage 3 and Stage 4 retrofit designs that enable existing commercial buildings to connect to district heating networks.
Simran has also undertaken significant research into the suitability of operating existing commercial buildings at lower temperatures through temperature-lowering testing. Her work has helped increase confidence among building operators considering connections to new low-temperature heat networks. The findings were presented internationally at the Smart Energy Systems Conference 2024, published in a peer-reviewed journal, featured in Hot Cool Magazine in November 2024, and presented at the 2025 CIBSE Technical Symposium. Her contributions to the industry have been recognised through several awards, including being named an “Innovator” in the CIBSE Building Performance Awards 30 Under 30 programme and receiving the Rising Star Award at the 2025 ADE Awards, highlighting her impact on the heat network and decarbonisation sector.
Currently, as a Senior Engineer at FairHeat, Simran supports the delivery of heat network projects across design, retrofit, decarbonisation, and technical assurance activities. She works closely with clients and project teams to develop efficient, low-carbon heating solutions that support the UK’s transition to net zero while ensuring high-quality outcomes for building owners and end users.
"I joined FairHeat because of the focus on optimising heat network performance whilst keeping residents and sustainability implications at the core of each project. This approach gives you sense of satisfaction at the end of the day as you're given the opportunity to make a real positive impact in this industry."
