Ted Tipton

Junior Engineer (Placement)

Ted joined FairHeat in September 2025 as a Junior Engineer (Placement) for a year long placement as part of his MEng Chemical Engineering degree from the University of Sheffield. During this time, he has worked in the District Heating Design department, and later in the Compliance department, allowing him to gain experience across the lifecycle of heat network consultancy.

In the District Heating Design team, Ted supported early‑stage feasibility studies for district and city‑scale heat networks. His work includes heat mapping, demand analysis, and techno‑economic modelling to assess the viability of low‑carbon energy strategies such as heat pumps and waste heat recovery.

In his current rotation within the Compliance team, Ted contributes to improving the performance of existing heat networks and supporting alignment with emerging HNTAS regulatory standards. His responsibilities include undertaking optimisation studies, contributing to connection surveys, and producing technical reports for clients.

Ted has a strong interest in sustainability and decarbonisation, particularly in the role that heat networks play in supporting the UK’s transition to net zero. He is motivated by applying engineering analysis to deliver practical, low‑carbon solutions that improve system performance and outcomes for end users.

"I was drawn to FairHeat because of its leading role in the UK heat network sector. I’m motivated by the opportunity to apply engineering skills to real-world challenges, contributing to the decarbonisation of heating through practical, low‑carbon solutions."
