Tom Burton

Principal Engineer

Tom joined FairHeat in 2018 after completing a Master’s Degree in Chemical Engineering at Cambridge University.Tom is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CEng MCIBSE).

At FairHeat, Tom has developed a breadth of experience on heat network design, commissioning, optimisation and financial options appraisals. In his current role, he heads up the Industry Standards team, playing a leading role in FairHeat’s contribution as Technical Author of the Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme, working in collaboration with the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero (DESNZ) and a wide range of key industry stakeholders.

Tom is a co-author of the Heat Network Technical Standard (TS1) which will form the primary technical reference point for HNTAS. He also co-authored the Heat Network Optimisation Guide, published by DESNZ, which sets out best practice for understanding and analysing how to improve poorly performing heat networks.
